The self-tanning company is joining the fight against COVID-19

Fashion and beauty brands have really stepped up to the plate to combat the lack of supplies for first responders during the COVID-19 crisis. Christian Siriano and Chanel are making face masks. LVMH and Coty Inc. are manufacturing hand sanitizer, among other things. Now Tan-Luxe is also joining efforts to produce hand sanitizer.

Due to the widespread effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tanning brand has shifted its focus from creating custom tanning systems to making hand sanitizer. On March 29, Tan-Luxe announced the news via Instagram.

The self-tanning brand posted a video on its Instagram grid, showing the production of Hand-Luxe, a brand-new hand sanitizer, being made inside a factory. The video was captioned: “We’re proud to introduce…Hand-Luxe. We’ve been working hard these last 2 weeks to formulate this super-nourishing, anti-bacterial, rinse-free hand sanitizer, formulated with ultra-hydrating hyaluronic acid — sanitizing & protecting you from 99% of germs.”

Tan-Luxe will make 10,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, to be donated to those “on the front-lines and in desperate need. The Hand-Luxe will contain 65 percent alcohol and other ingredients, like raspberry seed oil, hyaluronic acid, and aloe vera, all to ensure hands stay not only clean but hydrated.

“As a business, we have been deeply moved by the devastating impact the ongoing situation is having on the world,” says Tan-Luxe founder Marc Elrick in a press release sent to Allure. “I want to ensure that we are doing all we can to help the front-line – it’s more important than ever that we work together to overcome and work together, during what is set to be an extremely difficult time. I am proud to announce we have created Hand Luxe exclusively for those who continue to work hard to protect us during this period.”

There have been widespread shortages of hand sanitizers since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. When brands use resources to pitch in, it’s a welcome bit of help.
